Already Have GPS Tracking? Keep Your Trackers and Know Who Drove

Already have GPS tracking on your company cars? Good: keep it. In most UAE fleets the tracker answers one question, where the car is. The questions that cost money are different: who drove when the fine was issued, and who returned the car with a new scratch. CT Mobility adds these answers next to the trackers you already pay for, or replaces them when you are ready. Tracking is included in AED 50 per vehicle per month, and a pilot for up to 2 vehicles with no subscription fee for 3 months comes first (only the hardware, installation and mobile data are paid).

Short answer: If your vehicles already have GPS trackers, CT Mobility can often work with them after a compatibility check, or replace them, and adds driver identification, booking, keyless access and photo handovers. It is for UAE companies that know where their cars are but not who drove them. From AED 50 per vehicle per month with tracking included; minimum AED 500 per month, hardware billed separately.

What your GPS tracking shows, and what it does not

A GPS tracker follows the vehicle, not the person. In many companies in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, access to cars and handovers still run on internal coordination, driver assignments and manual tracking: a key at reception and a spreadsheet of who has which car. These questions stay open:

  • Who drove the car? Traffic fines are registered to the vehicle’s owner, which is your company. Black points can be transferred to the person who actually drove, but only if you can show who that was.
  • In what condition was it returned? A dent found on Monday could be from Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
  • Who may use which car, and when? A key box and a spreadsheet do not enforce any rules.

For the general difference between the two, read GPS tracking vs. a fleet management platform. This page is about the next step for companies that already have trackers.

See it in action: the operator console and the apps

Operator console showing a live map of a Dubai fleet with vehicle statuses and service zones
Rider app showing available cars near Burj Khalifa with model names

Live map. Every vehicle, its status and service zones on one map, updated in real time. Riders see the same available cars nearby in their app, with the model and fuel level.

Operator console overview: vehicles that need attention, fleet utilisation, active rentals and revenue in AED
Technician app task list with priorities, due times and the distance to each car

Keep your trackers: what CT Mobility adds

  • The driver on every trip. Each trip starts with a booking by a named employee, a selfie liveness check and an alertness check. Route, mileage, fuel level and alerts belong to that person until the car is returned.
  • Booking for pool cars. Employees see which cars are free and book them in your branded app. See the vehicle booking system for employees and pool car management.
  • Keyless access. Employees unlock the booked car by phone, through the telematics unit or through Bluetooth in underground car parks. This works with compatible hardware after a quick compatibility check, because a tracking-only device may not control the door locks.
  • Photo handovers. Photos before and after every trip, with damage reports.
  • Fines and Salik matched to the driver. The trip record shows who had the car at the time of the fine or toll. See fines and Salik management for company cars.
  • Access rules. Permissions by employee, department, vehicle, day and time.

Run in parallel or replace: you decide

Run in parallel. Your current tracking stays as it is. CT Mobility runs alongside on the pilot vehicles, and you compare both on the same cars.

Replace. Tracking is included in CT Mobility, so a separate tracking subscription is no longer needed once your vehicles are connected. Compatible devices can be used; for the others we agree the right unit. You can time the switch to the end of your current contract.

Keep a regulated tracker. Some permits require a tracker from an approved list, for example freight and bus permits in Abu Dhabi. CT Mobility does not hold these approvals, so keep that device and its connection, and use CT Mobility for drivers, bookings, access and handovers.

The compatibility check comes first

Before any change, we need:

  • the device models you use now and the number of vehicles of each type;
  • who owns the devices: bought by you or provided by your tracking company;
  • whether you want keyless access, which needs a device that can control the door locks;
  • any permits that require an approved tracker.

The result is a short plan for each vehicle group: connect the existing device, keep it and run in parallel, or use another unit where keyless access is needed. Device and installation terms are set out in your quote.

Cost: tracking alone vs. tracking included

Many fleets pay a fee only to see their vehicles on a map, and cover the rest with staff time. For orientation, one UAE tracking provider publishes AED 500 per tracker for the first year, device included, and AED 400 per year after that: about AED 33 to 42 per month for location alone.

If you replace your tracking, you pay one price per vehicle instead of a tracker fee plus the manual work. If you run in parallel, you pay both only for the vehicles in the comparison. Everything included in the platform is listed on the fleet management software page.

Typical migration steps

  1. A 15-minute call. Your fleet, your current devices and the problems you want to solve: fines, keys, damage or bookings.
  2. Compatibility check. Device models, ownership, keyless access and permits, as above.
  3. Pilot set-up. Up to 2 vehicles are connected with no subscription fee for 3 months, your rules are set, and employees are invited to the branded app. A typical launch takes about 15 days.
  4. Parallel run. Your current tracking keeps running while you compare fines matched to a driver, handover disputes and time spent on keys.
  5. Decision. Extend to the whole fleet, then replace or keep your current provider for each vehicle group.
  6. Close the old account. Export the reports you want to keep before access ends.

Next step: a 15-minute call

Tell us how many vehicles you have and which trackers you use. In 15 minutes we can say whether your devices can stay and how a pilot would run. Book a demo or ask for the free 2-vehicle software pilot (hardware, installation and mobile data are paid separately). To see the tracking side first, read about vehicle tracking with driver identification.

Are you a GPS installer? See our partner program.

Pilot for UAE companies: we connect up to 2 of your vehicles with no subscription fee for 3 months, so you can judge the results on your own operations before any commitment. Only the hardware, installation and mobile data are paid. Go live in about 15 days.

Frequently asked questions

Can we keep our existing GPS devices?

Often, yes. A compatible device can be connected to CT Mobility. If it is not compatible, or cannot control the door locks for keyless access, we agree another unit for those vehicles. You can also keep your current tracking and run CT Mobility in parallel.

Which devices are compatible?

The platform is multi-hardware and works with telematics devices such as Teltonika. For other models, send us the device names and the number of vehicles; the compatibility check gives an answer for each vehicle group.

What about our contract with the current GPS provider?

You do not need to end it to start. Run the pilot in parallel, check the notice period and who owns the devices, and time any switch to the end of the contract. Vehicles with a permit that requires an approved tracker can keep it.

What happens to our tracking data history?

Your history stays with your current provider, so export the reports you need before your access ends. CT Mobility records every trip from the day a vehicle is connected: driver, route, mileage, fuel level and photos. Reports can be exported.

How fast can the pilot start?

A typical launch takes about 15 days after the compatibility check. The pilot covers up to 2 vehicles with no subscription fee for 3 months (only the hardware, installation and mobile data are paid), and your current tracking can keep running during it.

What does it cost?

AED 50 per vehicle per month, with tracking included, the driver known on every trip and unlimited users. A pilot for up to 2 vehicles with no subscription fee for 3 months is available; only the hardware, installation and mobile data are paid.
