Fines & tolls

Company Car Fines, Salik and Darb Tolls in the UAE — Matched to the Verified Driver

Company car fines, Salik and Darb tolls in the UAE are registered to the vehicle owner — your company — and the record shows a plate and a time, not a person. CT Mobility links every fine or toll timestamp to the trip and to the employee who passed a selfie check before driving. Your team then exports the result for black-point transfer or for recharge under your company policy.

Why company car fines and tolls keep growing in the UAE

A traffic fine or a toll in the UAE is linked to the vehicle and its registered owner. For a company that owns its cars, every fine, every Salik crossing in Dubai and every Darb crossing in Abu Dhabi lands on the company first. When cars are shared between sales reps, technicians or shifts, someone has to find out who had the car at that minute — often weeks later.

Recent changes make each crossing count more:

  • Salik (Dubai): 10 toll gates, AED 6 at peak hours and AED 4 off-peak, plus 5% VAT since 1 June 2026 — AED 6.30 and AED 4.20 per crossing.
  • Darb (Abu Dhabi): AED 4 per crossing at peak hours with no daily or monthly cap, a longer evening peak (3–7pm) since 1 September 2025, and two gates, Ghantoot and Al Qurm, that charge 24/7 since 4 May 2026.
  • Toll fines: AED 50 for a low balance, and up to AED 400 per day for an unregistered vehicle, in both Salik and Darb.

How CT Mobility matches each fine to a driver

CT Mobility is a fleet platform for shared company cars. Employees book a vehicle in your branded app, pass a selfie liveness check and unlock the car by phone; real-time GPS tracking is included. Because every trip has an owner, a fine or a toll becomes a lookup instead of an investigation:

  1. Fine or toll timestamp. Take the plate, date, time and place from the fine (Dubai Police, RTA, Abu Dhabi Police and TAMM, or the MOI app) or from the Salik or Darb statement.
  2. Trip. The vehicle's trip history shows which booking covered that minute, with the route on the map, so you can see that the car was really at that place.
  3. Verified driver. The trip belongs to the named employee who booked it and passed the selfie check at the start. Condition photos before and after the trip complete the record.
  4. Export. Export the trip and driver details and use them for black-point transfer or for recharge, according to your company policy.

The step-by-step method is explained in our article on how to match traffic fines and Salik tolls to the right driver.

What the trip record contains

When an employee questions a fine, the discussion is about evidence. For every trip CT Mobility keeps:

  • the employee who booked the vehicle, and the booking start and end time;
  • the selfie liveness check and the alertness check passed before the trip;
  • the route, mileage and duration recorded by GPS tracking, and the fuel level;
  • photos of the vehicle before and after the trip, with any reported damage;
  • alerts during the trip, such as speeding or harsh driving.

A fine at a time with no booking is useful information too. The platform alerts you when the ignition is switched on or a door is opened outside a booked trip, so unauthorised use is visible on the same day, not when the fine arrives.

Knowing the driver matters beyond fines. Under the federal traffic law in force since 29 March 2025, a vehicle impounded because an unlicensed person drove it is released only to the owner or an authorised representative. Checking each employee's ID and driving licence at registration, and verifying the person with a selfie before each trip, lowers that risk.

Black points: identify the driver early

Many fines carry black points. When the car belongs to a company, a fine with black points can stay non-payable until the points are moved to the licence of the person who drove (Gulf News, February 2026). The driver does this through the official channels: TAMM in Abu Dhabi; the MOI app in Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah; and in Dubai the RTA and MOI apps or Dubai Police. CT Mobility does not transfer points itself. It tells you quickly, and with evidence, who has to do it.

Speed has a direct value. Abu Dhabi Police gives a 35% discount on fines paid within 60 days of the violation and 25% after that, up to one year; serious violations are excluded. Sharjah gives 35% within 60 days, and this also covers impound release fees. Every week spent asking who had the car is a week less inside that window. For the rules that apply in the capital, see fleet management in Abu Dhabi.

Salary deduction or company cost: your policy, our record

Companies in the UAE handle fines and tolls in different ways. One company may treat tolls on business trips as a company cost and recharge only fines caused by the driver; another may also recharge tolls on private use. Some disputes have reached court: UAE courts have ordered former employees to repay fines that their employer had paid.

CT Mobility does not decide who pays. It gives you a neutral record — trip, time, place and driver — that you apply under the rules agreed with your employees. A written vehicle policy helps; see our company vehicle policy template for the UAE.

This page is general information, not legal advice. Deductions from wages are regulated by UAE labour law and depend on your employment contracts and internal policies. Check with your HR or legal adviser before you deduct any amount from an employee's salary.

One process for pool cars, rental cars and shift vehicles

  • Pool cars and corporate car sharing: fines and tolls follow the employee who booked the car. See pool car management in the UAE.
  • Car rental and leasing: every rental is recorded with the customer, start and end time and route, so fines and Salik tolls are matched to the right rental. See car rental software for the UAE.
  • Shift and service vehicles: access rules by employee, department, vehicle, day and time mean each shift uses only its own vehicles, so the list of possible drivers is short from the start.

What CT Mobility does not do

To be clear about the scope: CT Mobility does not pay or contest fines, does not open or top up Salik or Darb accounts, and does not transfer black points. These stay with the official channels: Dubai Police, RTA, Abu Dhabi Police, TAMM, the MOI app, Salik and Darb. The platform gives your fleet, HR and finance teams the trip and driver data to act quickly and fairly.

Pricing and pilot

AED 50 per vehicle per month. Tracking is included, and the driver is known on every trip. Start with a pilot for up to 2 vehicles with no subscription fee for 3 months (only the hardware, installation and mobile data are paid): during the pilot, every new fine or toll on the connected vehicles can be matched to a trip and a driver, so you can judge the result on your own records.

Pilot for UAE companies: we connect up to 2 of your vehicles with no subscription fee for 3 months, so you can judge the results on your own operations before any commitment. Only the hardware, installation and mobile data are paid. Go live in about 15 days.

Frequently asked questions

How does CT Mobility know who was driving when a fine was issued?

Every trip starts with a booking by a named employee, who passes a selfie liveness check before unlocking the car. The plate and time on the fine point to one trip, and that trip points to one employee.

Does it work for Salik and Darb tolls as well as traffic fines?

Yes. A toll record has a plate, a gate and a time, like a fine. It is matched to the trip in the same way, so toll costs can be assigned to the employee or to the business trip.

Can we deduct traffic fines from an employee's salary?

This depends on UAE labour law, your employment contracts and your company policy, and it is a legal question we cannot answer for you. CT Mobility gives a neutral trip and driver record that your HR or legal team can use under the rules you have agreed. Take legal advice before you deduct any amount from wages.

Why does it matter how fast we identify the driver?

In Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, fines paid within 60 days get a 35% discount (in Abu Dhabi, serious violations are excluded). A fine with black points on a company car may not be payable until the points are moved to the driver's licence, so the driver must be known first.

How much does it cost?

AED 50 per vehicle per month, with tracking included and the driver known on every trip. A pilot for up to 2 vehicles with no subscription fee for 3 months is available; only the hardware, installation and mobile data are paid.
